Who Do You Think You Are?
Beating imposter syndrome.
Hey there,
Happy hump day! The good news is that the week is almost over. The bad news is that you still have half to go. At least until noon lol.
Anyway, let’s jump right into this week’s topic…Imposter Syndrome.
Let’s get real for a second -
Have you ever made big moves toward the life you actually want, only to hear that little voice in the back of your head (we’ll call her Karen) whisper, “Who do you think you are?”
Yep, me too! That’s imposter syndrome. And it loves to show up just when you’re finally stepping into your next level.
Maybe you’ve started a new routine, set ambitious goals, or decided to rewrite your life story in an exciting way, but deep down, you feel like a fraud. Like you’re just pretending to have it together and someone’s going to call you out at any moment.
It’s okay, I’m raising my hand too!
Imposter syndrome (Karen) has gotten the best of me more times than I like to think about. It has robbed me of new opportunities to better myself and grow, not to mention stolen my confidence and self-worth.
But here’s the truth: Imposter syndrome isn’t proof that you’re not good enough - it’s proof that you’re growing!
Why Imposter Syndrome Shows Up
The more you evolve, the more your mind tries to keep you “safe” by convincing you that you don’t belong in this new space. It’s your brain’s way of resisting change, even when that change is good for you. Because even though you know that what you want is good for you, your brain perceives it as a threat because it’s different than what you’re used to.
You’ve never been the version of yourself you are working to become. And when your brain sees that unfamiliar territory it sounds the “oh shit” alarm and releases the Karen to try and convince you to stop and stay where it’s safe.
Our biological wiring doesn’t recognize that it’s no longer 10,000 BC and that moving away from the status quo and working to better our lives isn’t going to cause our species to go extinct.
But just because your brain is stuck in the ice age, doesn’t mean you have to stay there.
Just because you feel like an imposter doesn't mean you are one.
Who you’re becoming may feel new and unfamiliar, but that doesn’t mean you don’t deserve to be her!
How To Beat It
Recognize It - Awareness is key. The next time imposter (Karen) thoughts creep in, call them out! Remind yourself: This is just the fear talking. I can do this.
Reframe the story - Instead of “I’m not good enough,” try “I’m learning and growing into this version of myself.” Remember, growth is supposed to feel uncomfortable.
Own your wins - Keep track of your progress, no matter how small. Every step forward is proof that you belong in the life you’re creating.
Stop comparing - Someone else’s success doesn’t mean you’re failing. Stay in your lane, focus on your journey, and trust that you’re exactly where you need to be.
Act as if - Confidence doesn’t come first - action does! Show up as the person you want to be, even before you feel ready. That’s how you become her.
Listen, imposter syndrome doesn’t mean you’re not cut out for this - it means you’re stepping up and stepping into who you want to be and the life you want to live. That’s something to be proud of.
You are not an imposter in your transformation. You are the creator of it.
So tell Karen to STFU and keep walking toward you’re higher self! You deserve it.
Okay, I think that’s all for now.
Until next time, keep going and keep growing.
